If you want to furnish and decorate your living room in a unique way, then ottoman coffee tables are perfect answer. Also it can add an accent color into the room. Best of all, ottomans may also provide extra storage space with built-in cabinets. With such diversity in designs, sizes, upholstery & function, ottomans can be used in just about any room of the house.
Obviously an Ottoman should not be used as a coffee table without utilizing a serving tray on top as soft material and hot liquid drinks do not make a good combination. The answer is simple. Use a serving tray when you have guests and need a place to serve refreshments. Obviously be careful if you do have young children as the hot drinks will be at their height level. The more common uses of an ottoman are as a footstool or if large enough, a day bed but sometimes they will double up as a seat. If you have more guests than chairs, I am sure younger people won't mind using it as something to sit on. It won't be comfortable for long periods of time as it doesn't have the back support but it will do in an emergency.
When we generally think of ottoman they are nothing but a low, rectangular footrest, usually upholstered accompanying an accent chair. They are used as footrest and are perfect for comfortable seating. However ottomans have outgrown its role and we now see them along with sofa sets adding new features of extra seating or an occasional table. They come is different sizes and shapes and are much higher than the footrest. Ottoman involves a combination of shape, style and function. They are padded, upholstered low-rise bench with no armrests or back supports.
There are very few furniture pieces that can offer a place to sit, a place to kick your feet up and rest your legs or place to set a tray of drinks and snacks upon. As a matter of fact, there's really only one such versatile furnishing and that, is the ottoman. With so many uses, it's no wonder it can sometimes take quite a beating and begin to look old, weathered and ready to be put out to pasture (or into the nearest dumpster.) Since décor designers understand how much people love their favorite and most multi-purpose furnishing, cleverly (and thankfully) they came up with the ottoman slipcover.
